Welcome to the Practical Sportman Fishing Site. This site is full of information and tips for new beginners who have lots of questions but want to learn to enjoy these sports. I was fortunate enough to be taught how to hunt and fish from my father and grandfathers. I have passed this family knowledge onto my daughter and son and now to my grandson.  I grew up in a family of hunters, fishers and gathers so I have been doing and am active in these sports from the time I could walk. I have shown and introduced several nieces and nephews to hunting and fishing. Now I have begun to teach my grandson how to hunt and fish. That’s him with his first fish he caught, a Northern Pike, at 5 years old in the Take A Kid Fishing article. After this outing I have a new fishing partner as every time I go he has to come along. If he had it his way he wouldn’t be going to school when grandpa is going fishing. We even had him out waterfowl and deer hunting, he has his own camo and blaze orange outfit. Right now I don’t have to call him to come hunting at 4:00am, he’s already up.

The main home site, Home of the Practical Sportman, is the main site where you will find articles on hunting, fishing, camping, the outdoors and recipes to use the bounty from these activities. Some of these articles will be just a small portion of the full article and you will have to click on the read the rest of the article here link

The fishing site, Practical Sportman Fishing, is mainly about fishing open water in the spring and summer. I fish Walleye every chance I can get. I like to eat these mild tasting fish with Perch a close second, so this site is more about catching these than any other species. However, Pike, I like to can and enjoy them this way, but, Pike fresh caught in the spring right after ice out are hard to beat for great taste. I seldom get out after Salmon or trout but try to go at least once a year after these.

The ice fishing site, Practical Sportman Ice Fishing, is about fishing but again mainly Walleye. Full of practical advice on winter fishing, winter safety, how to ice fish, what equipment you need, where and when to fish, finding winter structure and just enjoying this time of year.

The bird hunting site, Practical Sportman Birds, will have everything beginners need to know to enjoy the sport of upland or waterfowl hunting. Equipment, decoy spreads, dogs and trips will be covered.

The Big Game site, Practical Sportman Deer, is mainly about hunting whitetail and Mule Deer. You will also find articles on firearms, trip to Canada, Outfitter and guides, and general information about Moose, Elk, Sheep and Canadian Big Game.

The camping site, Practical Sportman Camp, will have everything the new camper or camper wanna-be needs to know. Tips and information for day trips, week end warriors, summer vacations, and RVers.

The Recipe site, Fish and Wild Game Recipes, will have great tasting, easy to follow recipes for fish, big game, waterfowl, upland birds, and nuts and berries you can pick in the outdoors. These recipes will have those that say "I don’t like wild meat" changing thier minds and lots of them asking for more. I know this because I have extended family members asking me when I am going to make this or that, and hear it sure would be good to have some of your cooking again. I use a lot of wild game.

If you need some information or have someone wwho is just starting out check these sites regularly. I try to work in and on these sites as much as I can, but as the saying goes, "Only So Much Time In One Day".

Hope you enjoy the sites, and if you have any comments or ideas use the contact form and let me know.
